Week 6:  This week was half term, but I didn't fully stop working I came into college and completed some tasks for my other units. I also researched work experience options more and spoke to a relative about a possible option in that area. I also researched work experience with a company that was at a work experience fair at college, this company was Laing O' Rourke an international company involved in construction, which uses CAD systems as an aid when designing projects, some of Laing O' Rourke's projects include Al Raha Beach in Abu Dhabi, The Blavatnik school of Government, university of Oxford. These are high value projects of an average construction value of £40 million, to do work experience with this company would be amazing and I will continue to research Laing O' Rourke and if I can't get work experience at my relatives company in Nottingham (a programming company) I will try to head down this route. I found Laing O' Rourke after my progress tutor...

Week 5 Update

Week 5 Update. This week I did a presentation on breaking bad to boost my confidence and to improve my public speaking in general. I felt it went alright, with the points being ordered and logical and I managed to answer questions in a helpful manner. However I didn't completely address the audience and I did mumble during some parts on the presentation, however this could be due to nerves and the fact it was the first presentation I have ever done without text on the screen. This helps me progress to one of my target grades, as I feel it increased my confidence and also made me feel more confidence doing public speaking. To increase my progress towards my goal ,I need to do more presentations and when doing them attempt to address the audience more head on and to attempt to project my voice so everyone can hear me.

Week 4 Update

Week 4 Update, This week I started to work on my CV, I retrieved a template and  started to edit it. I spoke to my progress tutor about potential work experience options and how best to start a CV from which he gave me a CV template off of the Rotherham college website. I have also continued to look at different universities and the courses they offer, however at the minute Sheffield Hallam seems the best choice as it has the courses best close to my interests in computing and it is local(ish) to where I live so I feel it is the best option. I also completed a reinstallation of an operating system(windows 10) on to a computer from a USB stick, this was hard at the start as the motherboard was too old and therefore the BIOS didn't want to boot from a portable drive compared to a hard drive.  However after we went in settings we found that we could reinstall windows using the windows install file in...

Week 3 update

This week I continued my search for future careers which included computer animation at Sheffield university animation is a growing sector and I have an interest in the subject as it seems like it can be quite satisfactory. I have yet to start code academy but I have explored some assembly code and have also looked at logic gates and tried to design different types of logic gates. I have learnt more about how computer systems work e.g. how audio and images are stored on a computer. Having spent some time on assembly I have gained more of an interest in coding as it is very interesting and rewarding to see the finished product. We have also studied floating point numbers which are an unusual concept but are difficult to explain.

Week 2 update post.

This week I researched several different options of future careers including  a software engineering degree at Sheffield Hallam , which is a four year course which would lead to a career in computing and editing in software. I also looked at the networking side of computing once again following the degree option which is 4 year course, it is an interesting course which could lead to a career in networking or networking management. I also attended EGX and had a look at the careers available and the different indie games and developers who had some good exhibitions. I have yet to look fully at work experience although I have possibly found a programming company in Nottingham which sounds quite interesting.
