Week 10

Week 10.  This is the final week of my blog, I will look back over the progress I have made. Over the ten weeks I have considered different careers, different work experiences and looked at different templates for a CV. However that was more recent and I am still in the process of making myself a CV.  I am happy with the progress I have made over the last ten weeks as I have learnt more about communication and the barriers to it and how to overcome it. This unit  has helped me to learn more about communication and has helped me gain confidence as I have done multiple presentations for different units both involved answering questions and addressing an audience. My first presentation was about a pc for VR development and I was nervous about doing it however I feel better about finishing it. My second presentation was about one of my favourite tv shows, Breaking Bad. I am passionate about Breaking Bad so it was easier to talk about it however I was still a bit nervous abou...

Week 9

Week 9  This week I finished the work for the unit computer systems, I couldn't start the Skype calls as the plug on my Mac was damaged,  however I further researched my plans for work experience and started to draw to a close the other units. The unit for which I am doing this blog I will have to expend some more time doing the distinction and merits tasks as I am still completing those tasks. However for distinction I need to get multiple opinions on if my work is good enough as the exam board will be very critical on my work and I want to ensure I achieve distinctions.  I also looked at a few other universities although at the minute I prefer the courses at Sheffield university and I like that option best at the minute as it is closest to home so I would not have to travel too far.

Week 8

This week I continued to consolidate the work across the different units and finish them to the best of my abilities. I am aiming to achieve high results for these units so I need to do as much as i possibly can. We started to look at Von Neumann architecture which is how the computer processes complex logic issues. I started to make a leaflet about Von Neumann and how the ALU and the other components interact with each other. This was one of the final parts of the unit computer architecture, and it consists of multiple parts (e.g. the pass, merit and distinction). I am working on the distinction and merit but I achieved the pass quite a while ago. The other units I am also working on although I don't have that much left to do on both really.

Week 7

This week  I started to round off work for each of my current units, this included testing a configured system and doing routine maintenance. I also carried on researching  about work experience. I began to see my options clearer and I now know how I intend to go about with this. I intend to do weekly Skype calls to a relative who is in charge of software management at a large international company in Nottingham, these will be used to show me the different systems this company has designed and maintain, and how this was achieved I'm looking forward to this as it will allow me to expand my knowledge about computer systems and give me an insight into my potential future career.
Week 6:  This week was half term, but I didn't fully stop working I came into college and completed some tasks for my other units. I also researched work experience options more and spoke to a relative about a possible option in that area. I also researched work experience with a company that was at a work experience fair at college, this company was Laing O' Rourke an international company involved in construction, which uses CAD systems as an aid when designing projects, some of Laing O' Rourke's projects include Al Raha Beach in Abu Dhabi, The Blavatnik school of Government, university of Oxford. These are high value projects of an average construction value of £40 million, to do work experience with this company would be amazing and I will continue to research Laing O' Rourke and if I can't get work experience at my relatives company in Nottingham (a programming company) I will try to head down this route. I found Laing O' Rourke after my progress tutor...

Week 5 Update

Week 5 Update. This week I did a presentation on breaking bad to boost my confidence and to improve my public speaking in general. I felt it went alright, with the points being ordered and logical and I managed to answer questions in a helpful manner. However I didn't completely address the audience and I did mumble during some parts on the presentation, however this could be due to nerves and the fact it was the first presentation I have ever done without text on the screen. This helps me progress to one of my target grades, as I feel it increased my confidence and also made me feel more confidence doing public speaking. To increase my progress towards my goal ,I need to do more presentations and when doing them attempt to address the audience more head on and to attempt to project my voice so everyone can hear me.

Week 4 Update

Week 4 Update, This week I started to work on my CV, I retrieved a template and  started to edit it. I spoke to my progress tutor about potential work experience options and how best to start a CV from which he gave me a CV template off of the Rotherham college website. I have also continued to look at different universities and the courses they offer, however at the minute Sheffield Hallam seems the best choice as it has the courses best close to my interests in computing and it is local(ish) to where I live so I feel it is the best option. I also completed a reinstallation of an operating system(windows 10) on to a computer from a USB stick, this was hard at the start as the motherboard was too old and therefore the BIOS didn't want to boot from a portable drive compared to a hard drive.  However after we went in settings we found that we could reinstall windows using the windows install file in...
